Past and Present: Apollo Theater & VI Museum

Apollo Theater facade Government Hill

Phase II of the Cultural Corridor Project will be the construction for a 21st Century living museum, civic and cultural center Charlotte Amalie. The location will be on the site of the former Apollo Theater on Kongens Gade commonly known as Government Hill. Documentation found in private collections and archives provide a graphic glimpse of the past use of this site as a community cultural center. According to historical accounts, from the late 19th century until the late 1970s, this large wooden frame building provided a venue for live theater productions, conferences, meetings, fairs, exhibitions, silent movies and modern motion pictures.
